Subscribe to the Fieldbuilders Newsletter0. Minor changes to the newsletter announcement
Instead of monthly updates, each newsletter will now have a numbered edition. You can still expect about one newsletter per month, but this change offers more flexibility for updates based on how much is happening in the fieldbuilding world. Additionally, I often don’t get around to writing these up before the month's end, and I don't want the month in the subject line to seem more important than the time of publishing.
1. Funding opportunities
- SFF’s funding deadline is May 2, but the earlier you apply, the better due to their system on Speculation Grants.
- LTFF has recently wrapped up their latest grantmaking round. Note that in case your project didn’t get funding, you can still apply to EAIF. You need to do this separately, even if you have indicated that LTFF can forward your original application to EAIF.
- Announcement on Manifund 2025 Regrants, with a current pool of 2.25 Million USD!
2. Upcoming events
- AISF 1-Day Virtual Hackathon on May 10, organised by Bluedot Impact
- EA Global: London, June 6-8. Deadline to apply: 18th May
- See other EAG(x) events and summits here, including from Nigeria, Paris, Berlin and New York.
- AI for Good Global Summit, Geneva, Switzerland, 08-11 July (no deadline listed)
- The Compassionate Future Summit, Berlin, 21-25 August (no deadline, but limited spots)
- Economics of Transformative AI: Research Sprint April 25–27 (online) by Apart Research
- AI for Animals & Digital Minds, 30th May - 1st June.
3. Opportunities for you and your group members
- Existing boards:
- This is your monthly reminder to check the EA Opportunity board and filter for AI Safety! There are a various opportunities listed, including from orgs such as Talos, IAPS, and even the UN.
- The 80k Job board is also listing several opportunities, including in fieldbuilding.
- In both cases, I recommend also filtering for roles listed under "building effective altruism", as there are a lot of AIS-adjacent opportunities there.
- Opportunities that are not (yet) listed there:
- High Impact Professional’s Impact Accelerator program. Deadline to apply: April 27th.
- Somewhat of an outlier, but if you are running a (fieldbuilding) org, see this Announcement: New Services for Capacity Building in Nonprofits
- Tarbell is looking for an AI Curriculum Contractor, and are also offering a $500 reward for successful referrals
- Interested in leading a project? See this proposal on a European AI Safety Hub and get in touch with the authors!
- Interested in working from a new Boston AI Safety Hub? (EOI form)
4. Useful readings:
- There was a post on the lack of experienced professionals in the EA movement that I think is also relevant to AI Safety to some extent. It generated a lot of interesting discussion.
- On a related note, I have written a post on Why experienced professionals fail to land high-impact roles.
- AI 2027: What Superintelligence Looks Like. Relevant for fieldbuilders, and Brian Tan from WhiteBox has written a post on LinkedIn that is easy to share or reuse (for which he has given permission!)

- Funding Diversification for Mid-Large EA [and AIS] Organisations is Nearly Impossible in the Short-Medium Term
- Aisafety.com has a new map providing an overview of organisations. It’s more minimalist, but does a better job of dividing between different areas. Check it out here.
