The application deadline for EAGxBerkeley 2024 is August 20 (only two weeks away!). The application should take about ~30 minutes to complete. Apply by August 18 if you would like to be eligible to receive a free EAGxBerkeley t-shirt.

Why Attend?

EAGxBerkeley 2024 will take place September 7-8 and will provide opportunities for new connections, networking, and mentorship within the effective altruism community in the Bay Area and the Western United States. The conference will also have many engaging talks and workshops in a diverse range of cause areas. Here are some of the sessions you can look forward to:  

• Can Cash Transfers Save Lives? Evidence from a Large-Scale Experiment in Kenya, by Edward Miguel (Distinguished Professor of Economics at UC Berkeley)
• The Current State of Technical Approaches to Mitigating Catastrophic Misalignment Risk, by Buck Shlegeris (CEO of Redwood Research)
• Animals Need EA, by Lewis Bollard (Farm Animal Welfare Program Director at Open Philanthropy)
• Advocating for Policy to Elected Representatives, by Gavriel Kleinwaks (Indoor Air Quality Program Lead at 1Day Sooner)

Should You Apply?

The short answer is, yes! We hope that EAGxBerkeley will bring together people who are new to effective altruism and those who are already highly engaged with the movement.

So, if you’re excited to be a part of the conference but are unsure about applying, please err on the side of applying! We welcome anyone who can demonstrate in their application that they are interested in learning more about EA and are thoughtful, capable, and highly motivated. We recognize the importance of diverse backgrounds and especially encourage individuals from groups that have historically been underrepresented to apply.

Tickets and Travel Support

The default ticket price is $100. Tickets are free for students and those who are unemployed. To make sure EAGxBerkeley is accessible for people with different budgets, anyone can select from a range of ticket price options during checkout.

We are prepared to reimburse travel expenses for some attendees. Travel support funds are limited, so please only request funding if you would not be able to attend without it. Whether or not you request travel funding will have no bearing on the outcome of your application.

Help Us Spread the Word!

Direct recommendations are the best way to get high-quality attendees who can benefit from and provide value to the conference.
