On November 30, we will be celebrating the first ever International Effective Giving Day. There will be a free online event featuring a great selection of speakers including:
- Nobel-prize winner Professor Michael Kremer
- Neil Buddy Shah (Managing Director, GiveWell)
- Leah Edgerton (Executive Director, Animal Charity Evaluators)
- Johannes Ackva (Climate Lead, Founders Pledge)
- Charlie Bresler (Executive Director, The Life You Can Save)
The event was devised by Sebastian Schwiecker and is co-organized by Ayuda Efectiva, Effective Altruism Australia, effektiv-spenden.org, gieffektivt.no, Giving What We Can, One for the World, RC Forward and The Life You Can Save.
Who should attend
On the one hand, this event aims to introduce a diverse audience to effective giving and showcase some of the leading research and organizations in the space.
On the other hand, if you are already familiar with effective giving, this is a great chance to get up to speed with the latest research. Both GiveWell and Animal Charity Evaluators publish their charity recommendations in November, so this event will be the perfect opportunity to hear them discuss their most recent updates.
The keynote address by Michael Kremer (who was awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics along with Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee “for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty") will cover his career and achievements and will include a Q&A.
