Marcus Daniell is an Olympian tennis player from New Zealand. He became involved with the Effective Altruism in 2015 and has since taken the Giving What We Can pledge. In November 2020, Daniell founded High Impact Athletes, a non-profit organisation connecting athletes and the general public with the most effective, evidence-based non-profits in the world.
In our interview, we discuss communicating EA ideas to a general (non-studenty) audience, the story of HIA so far, and Marcus' hopes for spreading effective giving in the world of sport through network and peer effects. In the second half, we consider what an effective altruist should think about the Olympics, and the value of sport. The article provides examples, more details, and links based on the conversation.
I'm posting this in case anyone wanted to share their thoughts on the topics covered in this episode. This is in the spirit of MichaelA's suggestion of posting all EA-relevant content here. Cheers!
Loved this chat. Took some fun and unexpected turns! Thanks guys.
Excited for this! It's been awesome to watch HIA's success so far and they still have incredible potential.
