About Health Progress Hub

Health Progress Hub, a Global Policy Research Group initiative, builds infrastructure to accelerate progress on pressing global health issues. The Global Health Policy Advocacy Program is our first program, connecting aspiring policy advocates with leading global health organizations.

About the program

Global Health Advocacy Training Program aims to provide motivated individuals with a structured pathway into high-impact global health policy work while supporting organizations tackling pressing health challenges such as lead exposure, antimicrobial resistance and nutritional deficiencies. Through ten weeks, fellows will build advocacy skills, learn more about the most pressing health challenges and gain direct experience working with leading organizations in the field. Although our main focus will be policy, we believe our program will benefit individuals interested in global health careers outside of policy.  

The program will consist of two components:

Training Component (4 weeks)

Trainees will build familiarity with fundamental concepts in global health and policy advocacy through interactive seminars, workshops, and guest lectures. Training will prepare fellows for the project they will work on while developing broader advocacy capabilities and building familiarity with global health policy.

• A policy advocacy workshop

Fellows will also be assigned tasks that will prepare them for the main project work.

Project Component (6 weeks)
Following the training, fellows will spend six weeks working directly with leading organizations in the field. Working in small teams, they will contribute to live projects at organizations like the Lead Exposure Elimination Project (LEEP), Alliance for Reducing Microbial Resistance (ARMoR), and Fortify Health. Each project receives dedicated management support and regular guidance from both program staff and partner organizations.

• LEEP:
  • Explore policy mechanisms for establishing global restrictions on lead chromate trade
  • Analyze successful regulations of lead in consumer products other than paint.
• ARMoR:
  • Support development of innovative financing mechanisms for new antibiotics through stakeholder mapping and data collection.
• Fortify Health: Projects will be determined based on fellow background, but likely will be focused on policy research, writing policy briefs and white papers, and assisting strategy development for special projects.

Motivated individuals interested in pursuing (or who are already pursuing) an impactful career in global health advocacy:

• Students in public health, development studies, economics, or related fields
• Early-career professionals interested in transitioning to global health policy
• People with experience in policy research, analysis, or advocacy, who want to  upskill further

We particularly encourage applications from candidates based in the Global South! Previous health policy experience is valuable but not required - we prioritize analytical ability and commitment to evidence and impact. If you are uncertain about applying, we encourage you to err on the side of applying.

(No stipend will be provided to participants during the program, as HPH is currently a volunteer effort that is rendered possible thanks to our great team members and advisors!)
