I think there are people where you can earn points in their books for being weird and able to convince them of some of the weird things. "This person gave me true beliefs that are otherwise hard to come by, I should listen to them more and see if I can find more rare true beliefs among the rare things they believe." I think these people are disproportionately able to become super-weird. And that super-weird EAs (including undercover super-weird EAs) provide most of the expected value of the EA movement (because of x-risk, donating large fractions of income, and earning to give in tech startups). It may be worth driving away quite a few people with low weirdness tolerance in order to attract more people with the potential to become super-weird.
